It's frustrating that there's no indication on the main list that any given task even has subtasks, and if it does there's nothing stopping you from checking off the parent task without touching any of the subtasks.
To me, hiding the subtasks from view (which are directly actionable, while the parent task usually is not since it is dependent on many things) largely defeats the point of using a to-do list - so I often end up just adding all my "subtasks" as discrete tasks, but that quickly becomes disorganized.
