    i was referring more to the web view which i was using from a browser (albeit from my iMac computer)

    i agree. each takes takes up too much white space in the the desktop view.. it is good to have a compact view so that we can see a lot more tasks in the same screen without having to scroll down.
    you could also play with having a 2 column view while compacting, rather than having only one column with lots of white space wasted on the right.
